2021 OSGWA Summer Meeting

June 4-6th 2021  Enid, Oklahoma

Join us this summer and stake your claim on fun in Enid, a city with a fascinating history, vibrant shopping, unique dining, and a bustling music scene. You’ll find plenty of interesting things to do in Enid, Oklahoma. The OSGWA and District 8 welcome you to Northwest Oklahoma!

Our Destination – Enid, Oklahoma

Enid is the 9th largest city in the state and was founded during the opening of the Cherokee Outlet in the Land Run of 1893. The Oklahoma legislature designated the city as the “purple martin capital of Oklahoma” in 1991. Enid also holds the nickname “Wheat Capital” of the United States for being the 3rd largest grain storage capacity in the world!

History Alive!

Step back in time and experience life on the Cherokee Strip during History Alive! on the Cherokee Strip, which takes place in the Humphrey Heritage Village. On the first and third Saturday of each month, the historic buildings in the Village come alive with living-history reenactors, who are tending their shops, working their trades, or socializing at the Village Church. Visitors can learn about different skills and trades of the time, or file their own land claim in the Land Office.

Leonardo’s Children’s Museum

Come play at Leonardo’s Children’s Museum! Bring your imaginations and explore two floors of hands on exhibits. Meet one of our cool critters in the Critter Clubhouse. Create a masterpiece in the art studio or use real hand tools in our Tinkering Area. Play outdoors at Adventure Quest with a three story castle and a pirate ship complete with a treasure chest. Adventure Quest is the largest community built outdoor space. Changing exhibits means new adventures to explore. Come play at Leo’s on Saturday morning for free because of a generous business that sponsored the morning just for you!

Railroad Museum of Oklahoma

Conductor ‘Watermelon’ Campbell will take you through history at the museum historic train depot of two large buildings, train yard, multiple cabooses and box cars, plus the Wanda Lee Dining car (circa 1924-with it’s own unique history). You will be amazed at the beautiful china (most complete collection around), RR signs, maps, stamps, postcards, posters, punch tickets, lanterns, functioning telegraph system, and lots more! If it has to do with railroad history….Watermelon has it on display! AND, can tell you all about it too!

The New GLō Hotels

Friday Evening Bash

The first night we are having a bash at the Breeze! There will be a fish fry and with special guests from the Great Divide singing the night away. The Breeze is a new entertainment venue located at 224 E. Maple Ave. it’s a short 4-block walk from the hotel or there is plenty of parking if you want to drive. The street will be blocked off with additional activities for kids. The eating will commence at 6:30 p.m. with live music to follow. Refreshments will be provided by the OSGWA and there will be a cash bar for mixed drinks. All of downtown Enid will be alive on the first Friday of every month Enid rolls out the red carpet with activities and events throughout the community.

Business Membership Meeting at Groendyke's Lodge

Saturday morning there’ll be an OSGWA members-only European tower shoot starting around 9:00 am just west of the Groendyke lodge located at 1109 W. Lake Hellums Road. Bring your shotgun, ammo, eye and ear protection.  After the shoot, we will be having a bbq dinner cooked by Diamond P catering and served up by the staff at the Lodge. After lunch, we will have our annual business meeting before returning back to town.  This event is for members only.

Special Day at the Ladies Nail Spa

For the spouses and children we’ve got Star Nail salon booked with travel back and forth provided by Enid transit.  Pick up and drop off will begin at 9:00 with the transit taking spouses and kids back and forth from the hotel and to Leonardo’s Children’s Museum and Adventure Quest.  If the spouses will coordinate turns between watching the kids and getting nails done it should be a good time for all involved.  Osgwa will pick up the expense for each spouse to get their toes and nails painted and we had a local business sponsor the morning at Leonardo’s for the kids.  Enid Brewing Company is across the street from the hotel at 126 S. Independence and is the host spot for this years ladies luncheon.  Lunch will begin at noon and be paid for by the association for the wives and children with alcohol not included.

Ladies & Family after Lunch

Once lunch is finished the ladies can let the kids play at the pool while they do some shopping with each other. Several wives have expressed some interest in setting up things from their own boutiques and home based businesses, etc. Contact Mindy Finney at (580) 747-0871 to let her know if you’re interested in setting something up. It will be in the lobby/pool area for an hour or two after the ladies luncheon.

The Stride Event Center

The banquet will be held at the Stride Event Center located just outside of the Glo Hotel. During the mid-afternoon on Saturday, the set-up team will be working on putting the final touches on the banquet hall. This will be a good time to bring any door prizes you have collected to be placed on the tables. We request all members bring at least one door prize to be used.  The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m. The night will conclude with a DJ playing into the evening.

We are in this togther!

As you come into the banquet you will see we have started something new this year.  We had a couple of retiree craftsmen & artists give us donations in hope that they could be used to help raise money.  No one is obligated to buy a ticket for these door prizes but all the money obtained from the raffle tickets for these particular items will be used to help OSGWA members facing medical hardships.  It seems that cancer has struck some of our members and spouses pretty hard in the last couple of years and we will have a board to post the names of them as a kind of remembrance to those that are fighting and those that we have lost to this dreaded disease. We are a family and when one hurts we all hurt… we are in this together!
