2024 OSGWA Summer Meeting
May 30th – June 2nd 2024 Poteau, OK
Join us this summer for a fun filled weekend you are sure to enjoy!

Our Destination – Poteau
Located in Southeastern Oklahoma, Poteau is nestled in the valley between the scenic Cavanal and Sugar Loaf mountains.

The History
In 1719 Bernard de la Harpe led a group of French explorers through this area and gave the river its present name. The present day city was founded in 1885, its name derived from the nearby Poteau River. During the late 1700’s, there was a large French outpost at Belle Point (Ft. Smith). From there, they would travel up the Poteau River to a secondary post at the base of Cavanal Mountain. Because of this, the river was named “Post River”, or Poteau River, and the outpost was simply called post, or Poteau.

The Venue
The Donald W. Reynolds Community Center is Southeast Oklahoma’s newest premier special event center. The facility is the ideal meeting and event location for access and attractions around Poteau. This is where the Friday night Dance & Dinner and Saturday Night Banquet will be held. The address is 105 Reynolds Ave, Poteau, OK 74953.

The Vicinity
Get a good view of the Ouachita National Forest from Poteau, Oklahoma’s Cavanal Hill, dubbed “the world’s highest hill” at just one foot shy of mountain designation. Climb down and take a drive on the breathtaking Talimena National Scenic Byway. Visit the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowry, or stroll through the Kiamichi Mountains.
Featured Speakers
