Our Destination – Elk City, Oklahoma
Elk City captures the spirit of western Oklahoma with its rich heritage. It is a destination that offers various captivating attractions, entertaining events, diverse shopping opportunities, comfortable lodging options, and much more.
Elk City is conveniently positioned in the heart of Western Oklahoma on Historic Route 66 and Interstate 40 right between Amarillo, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

History of Elk City
Elk City’s history dates back to the days immediately following the opening of the Cheyenne-Arapaho reservation in western Oklahoma Territory on April 19, 1892, when the first white settlers made their appearance. Before this time, many early ranchers had driven cattle over the Great Western Trail from Texas to Dodge City, KS, the present townsite of Elk City being in the direct path of that famous trail.

Historic Old Town
The Elk City Museum Complex allows you to immerse yourself in Oklahoma pioneer history. The Old Town Museum includes a Victorian-era house with displays and artifacts that give a glimpse into the lives of early settlers in Western Oklahoma. The Farm and Ranch Museum celebrates Oklahoma’s agricultural heritage. While you’re at the complex, make sure to visit the Blacksmith Museum to see how blacksmiths create metal objects. The complex is also home to replicas of a schoolhouse, opera house, doctor’s office, and a chapel.

Centennial Carousel
A beautifully custom made, hand carved, all wooden carousel built by famed animal carver Ed Roth and Dan Hornberger with Brass Ring Entertainment features 36 hand-carved wooden horses, two bench seats, and one wheelchair spot. Other attractions at Ackley Park include: The Choctaw Express miniature train, Route 66 Miniature Golf, and Thunder Bay Aquatic Center.

On Saturday, at noon we will have the retiree luncheon and business meeting at the Elk City City Convention Center the address is 1016 Airport Industrial. After BBQ lunch, we will have our annual business meeting. This event is for members only. This is also the banquet location so you can drop off any door prizes during this time.
Spouse Luncheon at Carnegie Hall
This years ladies luncheon starts at noon at a downtown historic location. Carnegie Hall is the former Southwest Auto Motors building located in downtown Elk City. It was remodeled in September 2001, and it now has a historical look and feel. The address is 215 W Broadway.

Saturday Night Banquet
The banquet will be held at the Elk City Convention Center. During the mid-afternoon around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the set-up team will be working on putting the final touches on the banquet hall. This will be a good time to bring any door prizes you have collected to be placed on the tables if you have not already done so. We request all members bring at least one door prize to be used. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The night will conclude with a DJ playing into the evening.
We are in this togther!
As you come into the banquet, you’ll notice we’ve started something new this year. A couple of our retired craftsmen and artists generously donated handmade items to help support a meaningful cause. While no one is obligated to purchase raffle tickets, all proceeds from these specific door prize raffles will go toward helping OSGWA members who are facing medical hardships. Cancer has taken a toll on some of our members and their spouses over the past few years. As a family, we stand together—when one of us is hurting, we all feel it. Your support means more than you know.
