2001 OKLAHOMA WILDLIFE LAW ENFORCEMENT YOUTH CAMP

The 3rd Annual Oklahoma Wildlife Law Enforcement Youth Camp was held June 10-15, 2001. The camp, held at Camp McFadden near Ponca City was sponsored in part by the Oklahoma Game Warden Association and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The camp was first held in 1998.

Tracy Daniel, Kay County Game Warden along with Warden Paul Cornett originally planned and implemented the camp which has become an annual event. Through the hard work of Daniels, who lives in Ponca City, he was able to secure a top notch facility in Camp McFadden and also worked diligently to secure additional funding and supplies needed to operate the camp.
The camp is open to students ages 14-16. The applicants are required to complete an application, write an essay and submit the information along with a letter of recommendation.
The camp covers all aspects of wildlife and law enforcement including; a full ropes course, archery, shotgun and rifle marksmanship, ODWC programs, law enforcement scenarios, law enforcement techniques for both hunting and fishing related enforcement, boating and a host of other topics. Wild game feeds, trips to a water park and good food and fun were just part of the activities that the students enjoyed.

The 2001 camp had 42 successful applicants from all areas of the state. Students ranging from Tuskahoma to Enid, Vinita to Walters and all areas in between were accepted.
